COMPETITIVE EXHIBITOR RULES

SPECIAL TROPHY

Rules of the Special Trophy Competitions

  1. These competitions are open to any individual—not to institutions, clubs, groups, businesses or partnerships. The exhibitor must be the owner of the specimens shown.
  2. Specimens shall be labeled correctly with name and location.
  3. The only criterion for judging is the quality of the specimen(s). There will be no point score given and the decision of the judges shall be final.
  4. Repaired and Disallowed Specimens.
    1. Repaired specimens shall be allowed only under the following circumstances:
      1. The repair shall be simply one of a crystal being glued back together or back onto the matrix.
      2. The label shall note the specimen is repaired. The exhibitor may include additional information about the repair on the judging sheet.
    2. Disallowed or out-of-class specimens:
      1. Synthetic, reconstituted, or oiled specimens.
      2. Minerals embedded in plastic or surfaces coated with added material.
      3. Cracks or gaps that have been filled with any type of material
      4. Matrix that has been altered or added to.
      5. Repaired specimens not noted on the label.
      6. Micromounts are allowed only in micromount and educational (with photos) exhibits.
      7. Minerals pressed into a base to meet size requirements.
      8. Crystal faces with lapidary treatment except where allowed and so noted.
      9. Crystals added to the specimen having not been there originally.
      10. Damaged or missing crystals that have been restored.

PAUL DESAUTELS MEMORIAL TROPHY

A minimum of twelve (12) specimens are required.

  1. TGMS Cases (48” size) must be used in this competition. Exhibitors shall provide their own case liners and risers.
  2. No individual can win the trophy more than once every three years.

WALT LIDSTROM MEMORIAL TROPHY

  1. The specimen entered must be part of a competitive exhibit (excluding the Best of Theme and Bideaux Trophy competition). Only one specimen may be entered from any one exhibit.
  2. The exhibitor shall also place an identification marker supplied by the Competitive Exhibits Chairperson next to the specimen to be judged.
  3. No specimen can win the trophy more than once every three years.

RICHARD A. BIDEAUX MEMORIAL TROPHY

  1. The specimen entered must come from Arizona
  2. No specimen can win the trophy more than once every three years.
  3. Only one specimen may be entered by an exhibitor.
